There are two cars I new I would buy (at some point) within the first few minutes of a test drive:

1, NA Miata....test drove a slightly used 1990 A package car in early 1991. I had followed the launch of the Miata as a previous owner of X1/9's, Fiat and Alfa Spiders and welcomed the idea of a reliable fun roadster. When the cars first arrived and were all priced above sticker (and sold!), The best I was able to do prior to my test drive was sit in a new one at a dealership. I was slightly disappointed in the overall size of the car and the styling was not exactly what I was used to after Bertone and Pininfarina designed cars.

The test drove put that all to rest. The car was a flat out blast to drive. Power was not an issue to me as the car was just as powerful as the Italian cars I was used to.
In August of 1991, I purchased a used, 4K mile 1990 Silver A package car that had been traded in already by an older enthusiast that fount the car's interior to be to small.
I kept the car for 6+ years and enjoyed it as much the day I sold it to a coworker as the day I bought it. My only reason for selling was the addition of a second child.

I paid $13,400 and sold the car 6 years laterwhen it had just under 50K miles for $8,500. I replaced tires and 1 heater hose during ownership.

The other car that was an immediate "I'm going to buy one of these"? A Boxster S of course!
In 2008, I bought my 2000 S, a few years after that first test drive. It had 76K miles and now has about 130K.
Its the best sports car I've even owned.
