Its not the shock that suffers heat stress but the inner rubber drive shaft boots - especially on the S models.
Mine lasted +/- 15,000 km before the rubber hardened and split....
Wrapping them is one way to reduce the heat buildup, but by far the best is to have the pipes ceramic coated both internally and externally.
