Thanks for the response. I hate the stock shift distance as it feels very poor and long. My brother's Japanese car even has a better shift feel. I just hear all these stories of people having shifting problems with noise and stiffness that I don't want to tackle it unless I know for sure what needs to be done.
Maybe Tool Pants can add to this?
