Another inexpensive way to fix ...
… the soft top is using hot-glue or contact cement.
The hot-glue and the contact cement begin liquids penetrate into the fabric and form a long and durable adhesion.

After allowing 4 days to cure, it appears all is good. It might not hold for years, but then again I seldom raise or lower the top more than 2 or 3 times a year (summer-sunny weather car only).
A lot less $$ than a new top w/install.
