I remember being surprised when seeing the specs for the new base. The old S really is about as good if not better in some specs. The gap between base and S has just widened.
On the topic of model updates there have been leaks of a tarp coming off of a redesigned 911 in Stuttgart. It was part of a display and was meant to stay covered but the tarp came off, so I expect the refresh on the 991 soon and the boxster should follow or happen at the same time.
The 911 has a more militant rear end then before the refresh and it's rumored that the cars are all turbo and smaller displacement.
With Porsche pushing out many special editions for the 981 expect a refresh really soon and I wouldn't be surprised for it to be a flat 4.
