Exactly. I love the retro styling of the car and at this point it's a classic in its own right. Nothing else on the road looks like it. The modern boxsters have made a strong effort to look modern with large scoops and such, which works on the cayman. But the new boxster looks like a ferrari (not complaining, but it got away from the retro roots.)
The slats are not perfectly executed, but the original side vents on the boxster are IMO the worst bit of the styling. (Hence it was not part of the concept.) The boxster is sort of jetsons, at the time it was seen as the future through the past, the promotional material for the concept all applauds the car as the future as well as the past. However, that future never came as safety regulations and turbos have hiked up the front ends of porsches and added buldges and longer track.
The smooth rear lines of the boxster are really hard to find in any car, mine is debagded even to further accent this.
So I like the gills, I think they make the car even more retro/futuristic, and undoubtably unique.
