Are you sure it was a 1972? In 1974 it was a law that 1974 cars would not start unless the seat belt was fastened. May have started in 1973, but it was repealed in 2 or 3 years. My 1974 TransAm (455SD 4-speed) had the interconnect box on the starter side inner fender.
