Smaller displacement and forced induction are definitely the future of performance models. Look at the base motor in the BMW's and the GTI and R spec motors for Volkswagen. Subaru WRX has had them for quite some time as has Audi. Even several of the true exotics are going this way. It's all about weight, CAFE requirements and cost. It is the new reality. Right now is the absolute golden age of performance cars in my opinion. It is headed down strictly because of government regulations. Go out and buy the best car you can now and hang onto it!

All that being said, if you live at High Altitude like I do forced induction is practically a necessity. Going up in the hills here to 10,000 feet and above cars get very anemic without it.
