Buy an AZ or CA car. little or no rust or suspension rubber deterioration compared with everywhere else. Find a car that has been well cared for, preferably with a folder full of maintenance receipts. At 100k miles, clutch, shocks, and IMS are probably due.
I drive a 98 2.5 car and over 9 years of ownership, it has been well maintained and very reliable. In your shoes I would buy one again, or an S model if it was a well cared for sweetie. Car condition is more important to me than features or price at 100k miles.
