Some engines use the flywheel as part of that balancing. I just am not sure about how the Boxster engine is designed. As an example the Jeep V8's from the 70's used external balancing. A 304, 360 and 400 small block all would interchange the same flywheel but the weighting was different. They would bolt up no problem, but would not balance. I know little about rebuilding the GM V8's but seem to recall that the balance was on the crankshaft of those engines and any V8 flywheel would work. I don't intend to rebuild a Boxster engine, but am interested in knowing the real answer to the question just for general knowledge. Hopefully someone with the real answer will chime in.
