Before investing in a new tip try this stuff...I have a '97 and it worked great. It's calles MAAS polishing creme and I use it to clean stainess steel guns. You can buy it at Sportsman's Warehouse, Bass Pro or similar stores. You also can get it on the internet of course. I used a liberal amount and spent some time on the deck but it shined the tip up almost as new. Good luck!
