Look, I'm a shade tree mechanic (at best) on a good day, but I can follow instructions with the best of them.
An alternator R/R is about 2 hours max, start to finish. That included disconnecting the battery, removing the passenger seat etc. It's not a hard job, just have to have some basic tools and a little patience.
I'm sure the bill includes his troubleshooting and reseting airbag light etc but it sure seems high....like he's quoting your 15 hours @$100/hour.
BTW, I'd bet your entire alternator is not bad, just the voltage regulator, which on 986's costs about $50 and takes 10 minutes to replace once the alternator is out.
