Yes but for driving purposes early 911 vs Boxsters are apple and orange propositions.
air cooled 911's, 964 and 993's may all at some point recoupe their sticker prices (few have, particularly if you consider how expensive they were for their day).
But if you do buy one of these you won't be driving it the way you will drive a Boxster/Cayman or 996/997 Carrera. The air-cooled cars have essentially become garage queens, and for good reason. The endless supply of Boxster/Cayman and '99-'14 Carreras means that you can do whatever you want when you want with these cars. Street or track, rain or shine. If your Boxster/Cayman or 996/997 is stolen and sent to Russia, you can get another one in a day if you don't care about scoring a bargain. It's like Hugh Hefner living at the Playboy Mansion vs. the guy who lives in the remote county where the best looking girl lives three hours away. Finding another beauty to spend all your money isn't so hard with the former. For me it makes driving the workhorse cars more enjoyable.
