Hmmm, I just reread that above sentence and realized that I could just replace the hinge with magnets and
use the original broken flaps and fix them with about 5 minutes of dremel/glue work... eureka!!!

I did the magnet thing last week. Works great and no more dangling flap! I'll get some pics at some point.
