True story. I spent some time working in federal LE. A colleague in the state court calls me knowing that I'm a car guy with a "you won't believe what happened here" story. Basically he tells of two guys that were racing on the highway. They wreck and in the ensuing crash they kill a woman in another car. Remember this is state court (anything goes) not federal, so the guy with means who was racing gets a top notch insanely expensive defense lawyer. The guy of modest means gets a lawyer from the phone book. Rich guys gets vehicular manslaughter, probably 2-3 years prison. Poor guy gets
death by auto, 10 year minimum sentence.
