Each State of the Union has its own criteria for registering a vehicle purchased outside of their State. At minimum, a signed Title and Bill of Sale would be required.
I suggest you contact your State's DMV for the proper procedure, or search their website.
In Texas, it's very cut-and-dried, but I know that up North where I was raised, it's quite different.
