The Gen 1 had the plastic crack due to the extremely high temperatures of Arizona summer (was parking it outside of my apartment complex without shade. Have since bought a house). I also heard horror stories of the Gen 1s melting due to fog light usage. I put HIDs in mine so it didn't get hot.
Gen 2s had to sit outside for a week while they fit my bumper on. Held up like a charm. They're also thicker, and won't melt with the fogs.
I've had the Gen 2s for about 4 months now.
