I assume it's the same as the 986 models. If you could post a pic of the shifter boot bottom clips I can confirm. Pull up on the rearward edge of the shift boot to pull loose the clips. Once the rear is loose pull up at 45degree angle to loosen other clips. Once boot is loose grip knob firmly & pull straight up HARD! Once the knob comes off your hands & arms will rise rapidly 2-3 feet before you can stop them, so it is easy to hit yourself in the face! I recommend putting the top down & stand above the shifter so you can use leg strength to absorb the movement & avoid hitting anything.
