Has anyone permanently removed their sun visors?

The whole concept of a sun visor in a convertible has always confused me. Ultimately, shouldn't one expect to have a bit of sun in their view when driving one? They main issue for me is that they take away a bit of the view to the sky when in the standard up position, which is what it's all about!

They are quite easy to remove with a few torx screws however it leaves several ugly gaps in the trim that one would not want to be staring at. Mazda Miata (MX5) owners often remove theirs for the same reason and there are a bunch of aftermarket parts which have been made to actually fill the gap (in the Miata's case there is only one). Some examples here: https://www.google.com/search?q=miata+visor+blanking+plate&client=safari&rls=en&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=aqzeUbG2LNj84AOopYCIAQ&ved=0CEIQsAQ&biw=1377&bih=715&sei=cazeUbTgDu7i4APa0oCYDg

Has anyone permanently removed theirs in their 986? If so, I'd be curious to see if has anyone found a solution to the gaps.
