40K 996 vs warrantied 8K 986 S? I'd take 986 S anytime a day.
Putting 30K miles into a car does not take long and sooner or later, you will have 70K miles 996 which may requires a lot of maintenance and has high risk of RMS blowup.
It is a different story if the other car is a higher end model (say GT3) with 40K
