Signatures?

I've never found any evidence of rodents in my Boxster (although I know there are occasionally mice in the garage), but I did find something extremely interesting last week when I was changing-out my taillamps.

When you remove your taillamps, there is a kind of shelf below the taillamps, painted glossy body color. And in that paint, I found that workers in the factory paint department wrote their initials in the wet paint. There were at least three different initials on one side and two or three on the other side, all in differing handwriting, meaning that at least five different people were involved.

Do we think these are official "sign-offs" of their work (you know, the classic "inspected by No. 19"), or informal signatures of their proud work? There were no numbers or symbols, just a selection of initials, like R, B, AC, etc.

I am reminded of how years ago I found the hilarious message "I think it's right" chalked on top of the radiator of my IROC-Z.
