Newark was the very first thing that came to my mind when I saw this post.
I used to with Fed LE in that area in the mid 90's. I felt nothing was more vulnerable than an automatic car parked in a conspicous place.
Saw one of these car thefts/get aways happening right in front of me and we had absolutely no involvement...Crime just breaking out right in front us while we were in an unmarked car. At one point the aspiring car theif was making his getting away in reverse heading right towards us. I had no idea a car could go that fast in R.
