Hey Prospector
I got a new glass top installed last year and it did the same thing. I waited 3 weeks before I opened mine and it still did it. From what I was told the reason is that material needs time to stretch. As time goes on and as it gets warmer the top will stretch naturally and eventually you won't have to push them together any more. Hope this helps.
