Your car needs skirting to go with 18" wheels.

Shimmy shimy shake huh? were the wheels properly balanced?
Or did you get these previously balanced and driven? (in other words: used)

Try riding with higher tire pressures. It will be bouncier but will take some of the bite out of driving over bumps and cracks/seams in the pavement.
And 17" wheels aren't necessarily easier than than 18" wheels in terms of ride quality. It has more to do with the weight of the tire and wheel combination.
This is why I went with the 18" Carrera light about 10 pounds lighter than your TT's. But like everything else in car upgrade world you will get used to it.

I recommend getting those $30 plastic-chrome grill strips sold on Ebay, nice contrast chrome and blue.

or you can get door edge protectors from Pep-boys and cut and measure them your self for $10. A silver hood badge would compliment that nicely.
