The 97-99 had variocam but it was on/off, two position. The 00+ have variable variocam which varies the position between the two on/off extremes of the earlier ones. For sure a better way, but nothing that's a magic bullet for power.

My tensioner pads were worn too, one was horribly worn and pitted. It's the one with the oil hole as they tried to keep oil on it to prevent wearing. Looks like it would break at 200k if not replaced before.

I also have deviation on one of the sides but everything I've tried never corrected the problem so I gave up.
