P06 - CD Player (in-dash))
($3235)

This is what the sport package from a 99 Boxster,I dont know if the 97 was the same.
I LOVE the upgraded speaker system in my Boxster. It is no competition system for sure, but it I have received a compliment or two about how it sounds(both were when the top was down, goes to show it can hang with the top down). It does not become choppy, distortiony, and the cd player has not skipped on me once. It isnt underpowered in any way and can be heard loud on the freeway going 70mph. The cd deck/receiver it pretty self explanitory and I have not had a issue with it yet. Only complaint is that it does not pick up cd text on a cd,but at the same time displays the song, radio station, etc. of on the fm and am tuning. Truth is I havent meet someone with a Boxster who has not told me they turn off the radio frequently to listen to the exhaust note, might want to take that into consideratoin.
Another thing to consider is how much it cost to upgrade a "stripped" stereo in a Porsche stereo system. I was told that if I did not have the upgraded stereo system it was going to cost $800 per door to install speakers, because brackets, mounts and wiring all need to be done to the door. But if you have the upgraded stereo you can change the speakers yourself with a little fabrication.
