I had the same problem till I installed the nozzel into the filler with the bottom of the handle touching the fender below the "opening". It seems the angle of the nozzel may be a bit to "sharp" and by lowering the handle reduces this "angle" allowing me to fill the tank. It does shut off when it's full with no fuel overflowing. This works for me.
