Look underneath and check for leaks. Start with the cam covers, they tend to seep oil onto the exhaust which gives a pronounced burned oil smell. Also check around the spark plug coils, the sealing rings on the spark plug tubes also tend to leak.
On top of the engine, check the oil fill tube for cracks.
