The 987 sizes work fine, it's been done. They will be a touch taller, but not enough to cause a problem. Some may argue they fill out the wheel well a bit better.

As you probably know, it's the difference in tire size that changes the overall circumference between the two. Also, keep in mind that the oem wheels used on the 987 platform vehicles typically have a much higher offset than the 986 . And, depending on one's suspension set-up, this can pose inner clearance problems . Thus, necessitating the need for spacers .
