Windshield Wiper Install

When you have acquired your new wipers and are ready to install them, go get yourself a bath towel (the kind you can wrap around yourself). Fold it in half along the length of the towel (so the width doesn't change). Fold it again. Fold it again. Now lift up your wiper and place the folded towel on the windshield beneath the wiper.

NOW, you can change your wiper blade.

The windshield wiper arm is spring loaded to keep the arm pressed against the windshield. You can flip it up to the vertical position where it will stay on its own. However, when you attempt to change your wiper blades, you will likely move it out of the vertical position. This means the spring is trying to press it against the windshield. If, while manipulating the windshield wiper, you should lose your grip on the wiper arm, it will smack down on your windshield. If the blade is not installed at the time and you have not taken the precaution of the folded towel, you will have an additional step at the end of the process. That step will be:

Replace your windshield.

Ask me how I know.
