Don't get me wrong - I LOVE the Elise for what it is. I first drove a Gen 1 back in '98. It's a fantastic piece of engineering - the Modern Day Europa, but better. The AC was an afterthought and not even available on ROW cars, so I'm not surprised by your comments...
