.....and that's why I don't understand why Porsche removed the voltmeter from the dash. Sure would help you see something is going on before alternator death.

One thing to note is your alternator is always rebuildable. A good rebuild will replace the worn bearings, rotor, brushes and diodes. Most people I've seen online have paid $150 for a rebuild and it's as good as or better than new. Just don't tell them it's from a Porsche.
