It's best to change the oil once a year regardless of mileage. The oil gets stuff deposited in it like fuel and acid from normal use and this stufff sits in there breaking it down, regardless of how many miles you covered. Besides, oil changes once a year aren't so bad, yeah? I do mine every 5000, and thats about 2-3 changes a year for me.
