Connecting to the positive terminal in the fuse box is like connecting a jumper to your battery. It is intended for the very purpose of using a second power source to enable you to open the trunk. Very little danger of frying anything. Having said that that is one really dead battery you have. ChecK that you don't have a disconnected terminal before you rush off to buy a new battery.
