A real start would involve a detailed plan on how the biggest parts of the boulder will be dismantled (social security, medicare, defense) or shifted to private sholulders. That's the crucial part. We've seen NOTHING of the sort. Until that occurs we only have phoney starts. Time for people to start governing like one termers. It's really that simple every Congress person should take a one term pledge. That will part the the pretenders from the believers in a snap of the fingers.
We've all seen this "this time we're serious" movie a dozen times. Show me the money not the pocket lint.
there is a rhyme and reason to the madness. you cannot go into congress and say lets cut social security. that is madness not only would the vote not make it through the senate or the prez it would make you a one termer. SURE you tried to do good but you will get eaten alive. and to what end? The country does not like change. sure they say they do but the fact is humans generally speaking do not like change. That is why it takes years for ideas to spread and become "socially" accepted. SS medicare and all the rest are at best a ponzi scheme and at worst a huge burden on the economy. they should go. but before you go throwing the big huge log on the fire you have to start small. before you know it we will be ready for the big time.

as for defense, you name it as if it belongs in that category with SS or MC keep in mind the defense budget IS a constitutionally solid institution whereas the other two are not.
