keep in mind however, that NC has an income tax (6% - 8.25%) and base sales tax of 5.25%. while TN does not have an income tax, it does have a tax on interest and dividends (6%) and sales tax (usually 7%).

texas, as you know has no income tax and a relatively low sales tax (6.5%).

though all 3 are better than maryland. this little gem is particularly onerous - "No restrictions or limitations on property taxes are imposed by the state. Cities and counties can set tax rates at the level they deem necessary to fund governmental services." ugh.
