Where the shifter system enters the trans, there is a shaft that passes thru the tailhouse case. If that is what you are refering to, it is not an uncommon problem, but is not an easy fix either. The shaft rides on a bronze bushing that unfortunately is pressed into the housing as a blank, and then machined in place. As the result, it is not sold by itself, the rear case assembly needs to be replaced, which means pulling the gear box............
