codes are saved in the computer. even if you unplug the battery.
When you unplug the battery , you reset the light.
It may be that it threw a code and it will never do it again. If it does it again, then you know that it is a true problem. How else can you prove that there is a problem unless it happens twice. These cars are too expensive to start replacing parts at random. I have read on here where a code is posted and 15 different possibilities are presented.
The code can be pulled at any time. To clear a code from the memory, you must have a reader and choose "reset codes"
