Randall, this happened with my '05 987 top. I can NOT believe that porsche didn't make this a replaceable part, especially when they knew it was a problem with the 986 too!

The dealership tried taking out some of the slack--they said that there was still enough stretch in the cables to make that safe, but it didn't solve the problem. In the end, they took it to an upholstery shop and had new elastic bands stitched in.

Grumble grumble grumble....
