The light will come on when the pad is approximately 90% used. You will not have a problem driving that far. My light stayed on for about 2 weeks before I could get to changing the pads, and I covered about 600 miles in that time (maybe not advisable, although I drove carefully and suffered no ill effects).

I can't really comment on low dust pads unfortunately, I went the other route and installed Pagid RS-5 up front and Pagid Blue 4-2 at the back. Lots of dust, plenty of noise when cold, but fading them is impossible on the road.

Just on another note, when you do decide on pads, find ones with the hole for the brake sensor, which of course needs to be replaced along with the pads. My pads had no facility to fit the sensor.
