LHD cars have the light on the left. RHD cars have the light on the right. This is because it provides the greatest visibility through a curve - you'll lose sight of it later when it's on the inside of the curve.
Some cars, such as Audi have the lights on both sides. There is no reason for this except to make the car correct for any market - no need for market specific wiring harness.
