After more study, I"m thinking that water is coming in to the door frame somewhere in the area of the side view mirror. It appears that water is dripping down the backside of the vapor barrier right at the point where a wire loom goes behind the barrier right under that side mirror.
Once the water gets to the bottom of the barrier, it seeps down between the barrier and the bottom edge of the door panel, soaking that area of the door carpet.
Well that's my theory at this point. I've reassembled the door and will check again at the next rain, although this time I left a Shamm-Wow absorber on the rocker panel and closed the door on it.
I should have taken some pictures today, but I'll commit to doing that next time I have the door apart. Yeah, you know it needs done at least twice, maybe three times to get it right
