I think it's just a Porsche thing. My '66 is the same way. There are certainly no valves or switches in it's fuel line. The gas backs up a bit at the bend which is right where a modern gas nozzle bottoms out. That makes the nozzle think the tank is full. I assume the 986 tank is probably set up the same way. I just put the nozzle in just far enough that it doesn't fall out. It seems to work well for both of them.


One time the hose from the top of the tank to the heater fell off and I pumped a gallon or so into the trunk.... it's safe to say that 901's are a unique experience.
