A puff of smoke out the passenger engine bay vent hole means there was some oil dripping on the motor or exhaust components (most probably).

This could have come from a valve cover or some other area of your motor's passenger side. Valve covers are very prone to leak on our cars. My driver's side cam cover drips a little. When a pinhole leak clogs, it doesn't leak... for a while.

When smoke goes away, smile. When it comes back real bad, stop smiling and get it looked at!
