I've had both (previous Box was a beautiful Lapis blue 01S). Personnally the only thing I think is better with a 986 v a 987 is the exterior. I think the 986 is sexier. But the interior is better in a 987. The shifter is light yrs better. The performance of a base 987 is almost the same as a 986S. There hasn't been a day when I wished I had my 986S back.

But that's just my $0.02 worth.
