Well on a race car, permanent vinyl is the way to go. I would print on some removable vinyl and keep it on for the summer then take it off before heading back to school.

Most magnet material will peel at high speeds. There are a few that will stand up to the speed. Magnum Magnetics makes a 12x18 magnetic vinyl that is incredibly strong and has a white face. You can then put black sticky vinyl letters on them. They look great and hold well. The good magnets are not cheap though.
