The 60K mile maintenance schedule calls for fuel filter replacement on early Boxsters ('97 -'01). On subsequent model years ('02 and forward) the fuel filter is located inside the tank and is a lifetime filter requiring no replacement.

The fuel filter starts accumulating debris found in gasoline and slowly clogs, making the fuel pump work harder. Eventually the pump fails which is a higher expense and hassle than preventive replacement of the fuel filter.

Happy Boxstering,
Pedro
