I've never done it before but I would assume you do something along these lines:
Sand the old paint off with coarse sand paper
Smooth the vents out with finer sand paper
spray paint on the vents
sand down with fine paper
spray light coat
sand down with even finer sand paper
spray on clear coat
sand with fine paper
spray on another clear coat
thats just what i would do
