Oops...I wasn't thinkin' about IS. (Most of my photography experience involved film, and no electronics!) I'd still be interested in the shutter speeds, ie how slow one can go with stabilization?

Shutter speeds were all right around 1/250th... f/2.8. So, still pretty fast. The polarizer helps with the colors. Hand held, I can usually get away with 1/45 or 1/30 if I'm lucky. IS is good down to 1/15 or so. Neat feature.
IS is nice for sure, but I haven't found a Canon lens that I like so far. Haven't made the L-glass plunge, but I did pick up a constant f/2.8 IS USM 18-55 at work (also have a 28-135 IS and have used several others), and they just isn't as crisp as my Tamron 28-75. It's not bad or anything, just not worth the $1,000 for the 18-55.
