1) helmet (M or SA rated, I use a M rated and haven't been turned away yet)
2) desire to drive your car like Porsche intended
3) recognition that your insurance company probably wouldn't cover any damage (only seen one minor incident which was stupidity)
4) some way to make numbers and class letters on both sides of your car (some use masking tape while others use magnetic ones)
5) admission that as a newbie you will not be fast but will have a great time
6) your vehicle must be able to pass tech inspection (clean all the loose stuff out, remove the driver floor mat, make sure nothing is making funny noises, etc) (this isn't NASCAR so you don't have to comply with special rules, just make sure your car is safe)

That's all I can think of right now. I/we have a Chicago/Milwaukee based crew (4 Boxsters (me, NickCats, mladen, Hyung), 1 M3, 1 go kart on steroids, 1 hopped up 240SX, and 1 VW Beetle) that participates a couple times a month. If you would like PM me your email address and I'll put you on distribution of our communications. We will be at the one on May 3rd in Indiana unless the weather is bad (I don't enjoy autocrossing in the rain). I have another friend (RSX) that will be joining us in Indiana so you wouldn't be the only newbie in the group.

BTW - My wife enjoys autocrossing (doesn't do it as much as I do) so having another female might add to the enjoyment.
